WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Joseph P. Lawson, age 94, of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Complete Care in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Marlene (Segal) Lawson.
Joseph was born on July 20, 1931, in McAdoo, Pennsylvania, the beloved son of the late Adam L. and Mary (Grisconis) Lawson. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy and dedicated his professional life as a fire inspector for Uniroyal Chemicals. As a former parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, his compassionate spirit touched those around him. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the countless moments he shared with his loved ones, especially his late wife Marlene. His commitment to his work was matched only by his love for his family. Joseph had a passion for travel, creating cherished memories on family vacations to Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Maine, and during winter, visits to California to spend time with his beloved sister, Eleanor.
Left to honor his memory, Joseph leaves several nieces, nephews, along with great nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his siblings Adam J. Lawson and his wife Anita, Albert Lawson and his wife Helen, Edward Lawson and his wife Victoria, Katherine Pickett and her husband Carl, Mary Sullivan and her husband Raymond, Ceil Wetchen and her husband George, Eleanor Haddock and her husband Howard and Sister Mary Louis as well as his beloved wife, Marlene of 69 years, his infant son, David Lawson, and his daughter, Donna Lawson-Arakelian.
Funeral services for Mr. Lawson will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Rd Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Military honors will be accorded to Mr. Lawson immediately following the church service. Burial will be held at a later date when Joseph will be laid to rest next to his wife and daughter in North Burial Ground Cemetery, Providence RI. There are no calling hours.
