WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Jose A. Borrero, age 82, of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was the beloved widow of Mrs. Ramona Rodriguez.

Jose was born on December 7, 1943, in Penuelas, Puerto Rico, the son of the Vicente and Santia (Vazquez) Borrero. Jose dedicated over three decades of his life to the construction industry, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his hard work and unwavering integrity. Jose was particularly known for his loving spirit. He cherished every moment spent with his daughter, Rebecca Borrero, and took immense joy in being a grandfather. His love for family extended to countless gatherings filled with laughter, love, and delightful aromas from the kitchen, where he showcased his exceptional culinary skills. He was a master of traditional Puerto Rican dishes, crafting delicious empanadas, potato balls, and pasteles, that will be fondly remembered by all who enjoyed them. In addition to his culinary talents, Jose found solace in nature, often spending peaceful days fishing and planting—simple pleasures that brought him great joy and fulfillment. He never lost touch with his family, always prioritizing their needs above his own, and ensuring that love and connection remained at the heart of their family dynamics.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his children: Louis Borrero of Puerto Rico, Jose Borrero Jr., Vicente Borrero and Rebecca Borrero all of Waterbury, as well as Carmen and Alexandra whom he loved like his own daughters. He also leaves his grandchildren; Nyla Brenes, Devan Brenes, and Neftali K. Ortiz, all of Waterbury. Jose also leaves behind eight brothers and sisters as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Borrero will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
