A Life Remembered, A Love That Lives Forever

With hearts filled with love, gratitude, and cherished memories, we celebrate the life and enduring legacy of Jeffrey Mitchell, affectionately known as “Jeff,” who was born on September 9, 1960, to the late John Q. Mitchell Sr. and Florence A. Mitchell.

Jeffrey was a beloved son, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loving brother, uncle, and treasured companion. His life was a beautiful reflection of love, kindness, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear. His warm spirit, compassionate heart, and genuine love for others left an unforgettable impression upon everyone blessed to know him.

Jeffrey received his education in Waterbury, Connecticut, and graduated from Crosby High School, where he was a proud member of the basketball team. His passion for basketball remained with him throughout his life. During his professional journey, he worked in the construction industry, where he demonstrated dedication and a strong work ethic. He also pursued his love of basketball by becoming a certified professional basketball referee, officiating games throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Connecticut.

Among Jeffrey's many admirable qualities, perhaps none shone more brightly than his extraordinary love for children. He possessed a rare and beautiful gift for making young people feel safe, valued, and loved. Several years ago, his courage and compassion were publicly recognized when he received a commendation from the City of Waterbury for saving the life of a young boy. This remarkable act of kindness was a true reflection of the man he was—someone who never hesitated to extend a helping hand when it was needed most.

Within his family, Jeffrey was affectionately known as “the babysitter,” a title he wore with pride and joy. Children naturally gravitated toward him, drawn to his gentle spirit, playful nature, and unconditional love. Whether offering a comforting embrace, sharing laughter, or simply spending precious moments together, Jeff made every child feel special. His love for children was not merely something he expressed in words, but something he demonstrated through his actions each and every day.

Above all, Jeffrey treasured his family. He found his greatest happiness in the love, laughter, and togetherness they shared. He was a devoted father whose love and guidance will forever remain in the hearts of his children: Tiffinie Jones of Waterbury, Dominique (Christopher) Thompson of Colorado, Shanel (Byron) Reaves of California, and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Saunders of Hawaii.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Tyanna Mitchell; his older brother, Dale Mitchell; and his cherished aunt and uncle, Mildred Little and Charles Edward Tinney; nieces, Nyiesha Cozzette and Felisha Morrison; and his loyal nephew, Darrell Crosby-Williams.

Although their earthly journeys ended before his, the love and memories they shared remained forever a part of his heart.

His beautiful legacy continues through his nine beloved grandchildren: Taziah, William, Chandler, Joshua, Aubree, Mark, Johan, Ericca, and Janel; and his two precious great-grandchildren, Zion and Koda. Each held a special place in his heart and brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

Jeffrey also leaves to cherish his memory his nine loving siblings: Gwen Douglas, Cheryl Mitchell, and Carla (Robert) Bowens, all of Waterbury; John (Carol) Mitchell and Frederick Mitchell of New Jersey; Timothy (Judy) Mitchell and Charles Mitchell of Oklahoma; Lori Mitchell of Missouri; and Tracy Mitchell of California. He also leaves a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Holding a special place in Jeffrey's heart was his loving companion, Beulah Wiggins of Waterbury. Their relationship was one of love, affection, and cherished companionship. She was someone he loved dearly, and the special bond they shared will forever remain a treasured part of his life's story.

Jeffrey's life was not measured simply by the number of years he lived, but by the countless hearts he touched, the kindness he extended, and the love he gave so freely. He had a remarkable way of bringing happiness into the lives of others, especially children, and his compassionate spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Though his earthly presence will be deeply missed, the beautiful memories he created will remain forever etched in the hearts of his loved ones. His laughter will echo in their memories, his kindness will live on through their actions, and his love will continue to unite generations of his family.

Jeffrey Mitchell leaves behind a legacy that time cannot erase, a love that death cannot diminish, and memories that will forever be treasured.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love will remain with us always.
