Janis was born in Waterbury on Jan. 9, 1954, the daughter of the late Leroy and Anne

(Mastriano) Barrie. She graduated from Waterbury public schools, before attending and

graduating from Waterbury Catholic High School, Class of 1972. Janis then earned an

associate’s degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College. After completing her

education, Janis worked for 46 years as an x-ray technician, at Radiology Associates of

Waterbury. She loved her work and made friends with many of her patients. When she

was not working, Janis enjoyed traveling. She loved to take cruises, and she especially

loved her vacations in Hawaii. Additionally, Janis was a gifted preparer of delicious

desserts. These desserts, particularly her brownies, were eagerly anticipated by her

family as the holidays approached. For many years, Janis was a dedicated supporter of

the St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury. She will be sadly missed by all who were

blessed to know and love her.
