WATERBURY — It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Hector Luis Gonzalez Sr., age 73, of Waterbury, shares the news of his unexpected passing on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Carmen Celia (Torres) Gonzalez for nearly 55 years.
Hector was born on May 5, 1952, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Bonifacio and Isabel (Falcon) Gonzalez. Hector’s journey as an educator began in Puerto Rico, where he spent more than a decade nurturing young minds and instilling a love for learning. His commitment to education continued as he taught bilingual language courses, believing deeply in the power of connection through language and culture. He was even furthering his own education by pursuing a master’s degree, demonstrating his lifelong dedication to personal and professional growth.
In addition to his role as a teacher, Hector was a devoted man of faith who spent countless hours reading the Bible and sharing the word of God. He had a remarkable gift for bringing people together, making everyone feel valued and appreciated. His ability to uplift others through kindness and a listening ear reflected the true essence of his character: selfless, humble, and deeply compassionate. He was always available to those in need, and his humility and generosity made him a guiding light in the lives of many.
Hector had an infectious love for life that was reflected in his passion for Latin music, especially salsa, which often filled his home with rhythm and joy. He cherished time with family and friends, always taking the opportunity to create meaningful connections and lasting memories. Hector will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire love and connection in all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. May he rest in peace, forever cherished in our hearts.
Left to honor and cherish his memory, besides his beloved wife, Carmen Celia Gonzalez, are his four sons and their families: Javier Carrion and his wife, Nilsangel; Jayson Carrion; Hector Gonzalez Jr. and his wife, Luz; and Jeffrey Gonzalez and his wife, Lucy. Also cherishing his memory are his siblings, Jorge Gonzalez, Jorge Juan Sanchez, Evelyn Hernandez, and Brenda Sanchez. A special place in his heart was reserved for Emily Sanchez, whom he considered like a daughter and with whom he shared a deep bond. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Gonzalez will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Shrine of Saint Anne, All Saints–Todos los Santos Parish, 515 South Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06706. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with his family on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT. During this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Hector to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
