WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Hayat Abouanni, age 70, of Waterbury, shares the news of her peaceful passing in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, surrounded by the love and care of her family. She was the loving wife of Nicholas Abouanni.
Hayat was born January 11, 1955, in Araya, Lebanon, the daughter of the late Assaad and Hala (Saade) Antoun. She immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, in 1988, before settling in Connecticut in 1990 to nurture and raise her beloved family. A longtime active parishioner of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, Hayat was a devout Catholic whose faith was reflected in her daily acts of compassion and love. Her unique love language was food, and she delighted in caring for others through the meals she prepared. Hayat was always the first to extend a helping hand, ready to provide sustenance and support to those in need. Her humility and selflessness inspired all who knew her. Hayat’s greatest pride and joy were her grandsons George and Julian.
Hayat embraced life with an infectious zest, finding joy in cooking, dancing, laughing, and sharing light-hearted jokes. Above all, it was the precious time spent with her friends and family that she valued most, creating unforgettable memories and bonds that will endure. In this time of mourning, let us reflect on Hayat’s profound impact and the warmth she brought to our lives. May her memory be a blessing to us all. She will be profoundly missed by her family, countless friends, and community members whose lives she touched with her unwavering kindness and generous spirit.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her husband, Nicholas; her daughter, Jessica Uyar and her husband, Joseph of Waterbury; her sisters, Rene Saleh of France and Mimo Attieh of Lebanon; and her brother, Fares Antoun of Lebanon. She also leaves her grandsons, George Abouanni Jr, and his mother, Eve, and Julian Uyar, as well as other extended family members and many friends. She was predeceased by her son, George Abouanni, and her sister, Leila Ibrahim.
Funeral services for Mrs. Abouanni will be held on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at 10:00, when a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 8 East Mountain Rd. Waterbury, CT 06706. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the Abouanni family on Monday evening December 8, 2025 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Church.
