Local Stand-out Pitcher in his youth
WATERBURY - Gregory Gerard Sillery age 65 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital.
Greg was born July 11, 1956 in Waterbury the son of the late Clark and Ruth (Casey) Sillery. Greg was an outstanding talented athlete and won championships at every level of his baseball career as a right-handed pitcher. He excelled at Rollins College and Tampa University and was rated # 2 in the nation for Division 2 schools. He was also scouted by major league baseball and sported a 3 handicap in golf. He went on to work at Scovill Manufacturing following in his grandfather's footsteps and also worked for a time at SNET. He finished his career as a talented fundraiser for numerous non-profit agencies. Greg was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan and especially enjoyed going to Fenway Park with his brother, Clark. He also had a passion and special love for animals and would constantly bring home stray animals and spend his last dollar to feed them including the pigeons on the green.
Left to honor his legacy are his daughter, Erin LaChance of Kittery ME, his brothers, Clark Sillery and his wife, Maureen of York ME and James "Jim" Sillery and his companion, Beth of Calabash NC. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Lucia SIllery of Prospect, his nephews; Ryan Sillery of Hingham MA and Jim Sillery Jr of Watertown and his nieces; Lauren Sillery Kellogg of Groton and Tricia Duyck of Waterbury in addition to many beloved cousins. A special thanks must be extended to his cousin and guardian angel, Patricia Keavney Maruca of Prospect as well as special thanks to Accent Care Hospice at Waterbury Hospital for their passionate and professional care. A very special thanks to Greg's doctor; Dr Riat and Laurie Barrett of Access Care.
Funeral services for Gregory will be held on Thursday March 3, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St Waterbury CT. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services is especially honored to care for the cousin Gregory and his family during this difficult time. To honor Greg's Memory, donations to the ASPCA or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by his family.
