WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Gladys R. Neron, age 93, of Waterbury, share the news of her peaceful passing on Monday, June 30, 2025 at the Vitas Inpatient Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Gladys was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on March 20, 1932, the daughter of the late Gregory A. and María Belén Avilés Domínguez. In 1950, seeking new opportunities, she moved to the United States, where she would go on to touch the lives of many. She dedicated much of her life to hard work, serving as a factory worker at various manufacturing companies. Her warm spirit and caring nature were also evident during her time as a receptionist at St. Cecilia Church in Waterbury, CT. Renowned for her culinary skills, she brought joy to family gatherings with her delicious cooking, and her rice and beans were always a crowd favorite. A passionate homemaker, she found happiness in gardening, solving puzzles, and expressing her creativity through sewing, particularly in crafting wedding dresses and veils. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, who were the light of her life. May her memory be a blessing and her legacy live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Left to honor and cherish her memories are her children; Ben Neron of Waterbury, Sylvia Kolakowski and her husband Robert of Mississippi and Johnny Rodriquez and his wife, Traci of Terryville. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren; Kristian, Lauren and Daine as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
