Mr. George F. Macary

August 28, 1946 — October 20, 2025

Waterbury

WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness that the family of George F. Macary, age 79, of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

George was born on August 28, 1946, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late George J. and Lillian (Marinaccio) Macary. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, George dedicated his life to his family, his students, his colleagues, and his community.

For 49 years, he served as a high school teacher in the Naugatuck Public Schools, where he became a cornerstone of the district and a mentor to generations of students. His classroom was a place of curiosity, compassion, and encouragement — where young minds were challenged, inspired, and reminded that learning could change lives. George’s influence extended well beyond the walls of the school; he guided former students long after graduation and was respected as both a teacher and a friend.

A passionate advocate for educators, George also served as President of the Naugatuck Teachers’ League, giving voice to his colleagues and working tirelessly to support excellence in education. His dedication, integrity, and leadership left a lasting mark on the district and all who worked beside him.

Outside the classroom, George loved spending time with family and friends, especially his devoted coworkers who became like a second family. He took great pride in building and creating new projects around his home, found joy in cheering for his beloved New York Yankees, and never missed an opportunity to share laughter and good conversation.

He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him, and his legacy will live on in the lessons he taught, the lives he shaped, and the love he shared.

Left to cherish and honor his memory are his son, Brett Macary and his sister, Nancy Anderson both of Waterbury. He also leaves many cousins and extended family members and friends and his devoted grand dog, Max. He was predeceased by his siblings; Shirley Sullivan, Kathryn Macary and Robert Macary.
