OAKVILLE - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of George C. Gentil, age 85, of Oakville, share the news of his peaceful passing on Friday, September 19, 2025, at The Summitt of Plantsville surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on June 14, 1940, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Ernest and Florence (Karpovich) Gentil. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and then went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Marine Corp. After the Marines George worked for Dumouchel Paper Company for 30 years before he retired from Taft School in Watertown in 2013 where he worked as a custodian. He enjoyed his daily walks visiting the neighborhood and especially visiting with his childhood friends John, Stanley and James Everitt. George’s favorite past times were watching TV and going to the horse track. He was known for his sense of humor. What George enjoyed the most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to love and know him.
The Gentil family would like to thank the staff at the memory care unit of The Summitt for the compassionate care they provided to George and their family over his yearlong stay.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memories are his sons, George J. Gentil and his wife Cheryl of Oakville, Guy W. Gentil and his wife Patricia of Middlebury, his grandchildren, Michael (Mariah) Gentil of Thomaston, Nicholas (Marisa) Gentil of Marietta, GA, Zachary Gentil of Middlebury, and his granddaughter Lauren Gentil of Oakville, he leaves behind a great granddaughter Ella Gentil, sisters Joan McBride and Janice Gentil both of Watertown, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his sister Marcia Voitek.
Relatives and friends may visit with the Gentil family on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
