WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Gabriel R. DiMeco Jr., age 90, of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Monday, March 9, 2026 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret J. (Jacaruso) DiMeco.
Gabriel was born on April 2, 1935, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the beloved son of Gabriel R. DiMeco Sr., and Susan (Amicone) DiMeco. He was a devoted son, a cherished friend, and a loving family member whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He attended Leavenworth High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country. After returning home, he continued the family legacy by working at DiMeco Shoe Repair and he enjoyed sharing the skills of his craft with his community. He later found fulfillment as a Linotype machine operator for the Brass City Printery until his retirement. An avid car enthusiast, Gabriel found joy in building and restoring vehicles as his most prized hobby. His interests extended beyond cars, as he was a devoted Red Sox fan, often sharing his love of the game with family and friends. He loved nothing more than spending time with his loving family.

Left to honor and cherish his memory, besides his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret, are his children; Gabriel R. DiMeco III of Wolcott, Michael A. DiMeco of Oakville and Margaret M. DiMeco and her fiancée Tom McCormack of Waterbury, his step- grandchildren; Amanda, Jason and John and his step- great grandchildren; Faith, Bradyn, Skylar, Alice and Jack. He also leaves behind his siblings, Ralph and Susan, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings; Mildred, Eleanor and Adeline and his daughter-in-law, Cheryl DiMeco.
Funeral services for Mr. DiMeco will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 785 Highland Ave, Waterbury, CT 06708, at 10:00 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
