WATERTOWN- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Frederick J. Cocchiola, age 57, of Watertown, announce his peaceful passing surrounded by his loving family at Danbury Hospital on July 23, 2026.
Fred was born on December 06, 1968, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of Norma (O'Rourke) Gregory and the late Frederick A. Cocchiola. Fred spent his early years in Bethlehem, where he was involved in a variety of community activities. He participated in town programs, including T-Ball, little league, football, and Red Cross swimming classes at Longmeadow Lake Beach. Additionally, he enjoyed his time in Cub Scouts and Webelos, fondly recalling the days when his father served as the Webelos leader. Fred's adventurous spirit led his family to Ohio, where he and his brothers embraced BMX racing in Brookville. Supported by their father, who was always ready with wrenches and air pumps for any bike emergencies, Fred was proud to bring home numerous trophies during their racing days. Upon returning to Connecticut, Fred began a fulfilling career as a machinist at Risdon Manufacturing Company in Thomaston, where he contributed his skills for many years. He also pursued his passion for cooking, taking on a part-time role at The Olive Tree Restaurant in Southbury. There, he formed a close bond with owners Sam and Carrie, who cherished Fred's dedication and warmth. Fred will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to love and know him.
Besides his mother Norma, he leaves behind his two brothers, Billy Cocchiola and Dean Cocchiola, his sister Dana Cocchiola Bruton, stepbrother Chris Gregory, and a stepsister Brenda Gregory, along with eighteen nieces and nephews who he adored. Fred leaves behind his very special and faithful friend Julie. Fred was predeceased by his brother Tim Cocchiola.
