WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that the family of Frederick A. Cocchiola, age 87, of Watertown, announces his peaceful passing at Waterbury Hospital on Thursday, May 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved widower of Martha (Guitterez) Cocchiola.

 Frederick was born on October 13, 1938, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Casparo) Cocchiola. A graduate of Kaynor Technical High School, he later earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Post Technical College. He enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career as a mechanical engineer, dedicating more than 50 years to his profession, including many years with Engineered Sinterings & Plastics in Watertown. Fred’s passion for engineering was matched only by his love of cars and aviation. He enjoyed restoring and tinkering with automobiles, racing his cherished 1939 Pontiac, and spending time in the skies as a pilot. Yet, above all else, he treasured time spent with his family. He was especially proud of his role as “Pop Pops” to his 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, creating countless memories that will be cherished for generations. 

Fred leaves behind his brother, Ralph Cocchiola; his children, William Cocchiola, Dana Bruton, Frederick J. Cocchiola, and Dean Cocchiola; his stepchildren, Wednesday White, Ivette Medina , Brian Medina, and Lillian Menzone; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. In addition to his beloved wife, Martha, Frederick was predeceased by his son, Timothy Cocchiola, and his brother, Robert Cocchiola.

 A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Cocchiola family on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury. During this time of remembrance, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Frederick to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
