WATERBURY – On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the City of Waterbury and a heartbroken family lost a really special person, dedicated to his family and his community.  Frederick W. Blasius,Sr. age 93, passed away peacefully at the Village at East Farms in Waterbury, surrounded by his family after an extended illness.

Mr. Blasius was born on March 15, 1931 in Hamden CT, the son of the late Fred and Anna (Sorenson) Blasius. He was a lifelong Waterburian, who proudly served his country in the Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corp. A strong and devoted husband and father, Mr. Blasius was an industrious and successful businessman having become the owner and leader of Loehman Blasius Chevrolet in 1961 which he grew to multiple dealerships throughout the state. His accomplishments were many including;Time Magazine’s Man of the Year for Quality Dealer of the Year in 1985, the founder of the Lt Robert D. Westberg Scholarship Program which provides scholarship awards to police officers and their families for post high school education years and a founder of the greater Waterbury Soapbox Derby, just to name but a few. Fred was an incredibly generous man but never sought the limelight or wanted credit for his gifts to so many. He was truly devoted to his family and community and was never afraid to support any worthwhile cause, most especially Waterbury PAL and the Westberg Scholarship.  Fred was also an avid fisherman, loved his garden and enjoyed golf.  Our family thanks you Dad, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, all you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us. His family also wishes to extend their own love and appreciation to the men and women who work with Fred, for those that loved him and cared for him and helped him to enjoy a life well lived.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his children; his son, Frederick W. “Fritz” Blasius Jr., his three daughters; Andrea Rodriguez and her husband, Juan of Bristol, Kathryne Durant and her husband, Darrell of Waterbury, and Deb Fabiani and her husband, Maurice of Watertown and a sister, Lillian Goldsmith of West Haven. Fred and Juliann were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Blasius were held privately at the convenience of his family with the Rev. James Sullivan, presiding. He was buried in the Blasius family plot. To honor his memory donations to the Westberg Scholarship Fund c/o W.P.D. 255 East Main St Waterbury CT 06702 would be greatly appreciated by his family.  Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence or words of comfort or share a memory of someone important to you with your family and friends. Please visit the funeral home's tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to do so.
