Mr. Fred T. Shahen

March 2, 1946 — April 21, 2025

Devoted to his family

WOLCOTT - It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Fred Thomas Shahen on April 21, 2025. At 79, he remained full of life even while fighting some of the harshest of illnesses in his determination to stay with us: a real “miracle man.”

Fred was born on March 2, 1946, son of the late Fred and Jennie Shahen. He grew up in Wolcott, graduating from Wolcott High School and Hawthorne College in New Hampshire. In second grade, he met his life partner, Cynthia Woodard Shahen. Together they raised two beloved children, Kari Shahen Dudley and Michael Shahen.

In addition to his children, Fred leaves behind his loving sister Janet Shahen and her partner George Mowad, his son-in-law, Stuart Dudley and his four much-loved and cherished grandchildren: Isabella Dudley, Cassidy Shahen, Chloe Dudley, and Caleb Shahen. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan and Skip Scully, and his nephew and niece, David Scully and Jennifer Scully. Many cousins and his Aunt Betty and Uncle Andy Topazio were also a part of his heart. His extended family and friends were all precious to him as well and too many to name.

Fred had so many talents and interests: he was a master craftsman, a builder, a gourmet chef, a coach, a fixer of whatever needed fixing, a gardener, a mentor, a designer, a deli owner, an artist, a sports fan, a traveler, a beekeeper, a unique spirit. He and Cynthia spent many years traveling the world together – the US, Europe, Kenya, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean.

His enduring legacy will live on through the gifts of love, joy, and the fabulous meals he gave not only to his family but to his many friends as well. We will miss him dearly.
