PROSPECT – It is with profound sadness that the family of Eileen T. (McKenna) Kieffer age 83 of Prospect, formerly of Waterbury, share the news of her peaceful passing on Sunday, August 31, 2025 in the Vitas Inpatient Unit of St Marys Hospital after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife and widow of Paul Kieffer who preceded her in death in 2020.
Mrs. Kieffer was born on July 28, 1942 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Timothy and Mary (Murphy) McKenna. Born and raised in Waterbury, Eileen was educated at St Mary’s Nursing School, Central Connecticut State University, and The Hatrford Graduate Center RPI and was immensely proud of her Irish heritage. Eileen chose her career path early, to be a caring nurse. Her career spanned nearly 40 years at St. Mary’s Hospital where she held a variety of positions and was Administrative Director of Nursing when she retired in 2002. While she was fully dedicated to her professional career caring for the sick. Eileen was exceptional in almost every way but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grands were the light of her life. She will be deeply missed but her warmth, kindness, and generosity will be forever remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her. We are grateful for each niece, nephew, cousin, and friend whom she loved very much. To many she was known as “Auntie” or “Einie.” Thanks for every prayer whispered on our behalf, for every sacrifice made in love, for the countless hugs shared. Her devotion to her Catholic faith and Church were the foundation of her love and strength. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Left to honor Eileen’s memory is her son, Paul and his wife Rebecca of Prospect and their children, Eileen’s treasures, Bryan Patrick, Sean Peter, Jack Jude, and Connor Xavier, who they affectionately called "Mecca". She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends
