Devoted to her family and her faith
THOMASTON – Edna (Bracero) Cruz, age76, of Thomaston, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her entire family on Sunday morning, August 27, 2023, at Waterbury Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was the devoted wife of Jesus Cruz for 54 wonderful years.
Edna was born on December 14, 1946 in Penuelas Puerto Rico, the daughter of Maria Lugo and the late Gilberto Bracero. Edna was a woman entirely devoted to her husband. her family, and her faith. She was known for her “feisty” personality and gracious smile, loved to shop with her husband, and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Edna was exceptional in almost every way but she excelled the most at being a devoted, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. A devoted Catholic, she was a stellar example of grace and class and raised her children to understand and live knowing the absolute importance of family.
Our family thanks you Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, every candle you lit for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us, and the unending love you instilled in all of us.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory, besides her husband, Jesus, are her children; Gerardo and wife Gloria Cruz and Juan Cruz of Waterbury, and her daughter, Ivelisse Cruz of Thomaston. She leaves her siblings; Edgar, Erico, Homel, Hiram and Rolando, her sisters; Carmen, Anita, Evelyn and Lucy, her sister-in-law, Ramonita and husband Carlos Colon, and nephew Frank and wife Marilu of Waterbury. Edna and Jesus were blessed with many grandchildren; Gerardo Jr., Brandon, Juan Jr., Stephanie, Amanda, Adriana, Logan, Daniella, and Briana as well as 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Jose Bracero and her brother-in-law, Jose Cruz.
The family wants to thank the hospice staff at Accentcare and Steph & Niya from Waterbury Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cruz will be held on Wednesday August 30, 2023, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints, Todos los Santos Church, South Main St., Waterbury, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Cruz family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury, CT 06705.
