WATERBURY – With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Mr. Earl Riedl, age 72, of Waterbury, formerly of Watertown, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Friday, January 9, 2026, at John Dempsey Hospital at UConn, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved husband of Olga (Montoya) Riedl, to whom he had been married for 20 years.
Earl was born on November 24, 1953, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Robert and Vera (Vicenzi) Riedl and was a graduate of Watertown High School. Earl worked for many years in the wholesale retail industry. He had a passion for sports, being a devoted fan of the Cleveland Guardians and the Cleveland Browns, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on the UConn basketball and football teams. However, what was most important to Earl was his family, with whom he shared countless memories and lifelong traditions.
Left to cherish and honor Earl’s memory beside his beloved wife are his two children; Rebecca (Jim) Burns, and Ashley (Jerry) Pennella, his stepdaughter, Isabela (Ralph) Riello, and his grandchildren; Baylee, Donny, Jackson, and Addisen. Earl also leaves his brother, Bob (Diane) Riedl, his sister Vera Mestayer, the mother of his beloved daughters Jean Riedl, along with his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Earl was predeceased by his siblings; Cynthia Deschenes and Richard Riedl.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Casey- O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779. Burial will be held at the convenience of his family. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with Earl’s family on Friday Evening from 5:00 until the service commences at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
