Obituary

WATERBURY- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Diane L. (Rainville) Geigle, age 78, say farewell for now to our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, who passed away at Vitas Inpatient Unit of St Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, surrounded by the comfort and love of her family. She was the widow of Francis W. Geigle, who preceded her in death just two months ago.

Diane was born on November 21, 1947 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Frederick and Madeline (O’Neill) Rainville. She was the youngest of three siblings and cherished her role within her family. She spent her formative years in Wolcott, where she was a proud member of the first graduating class of Wolcott High School in 1962. She began her career as a bank teller at Colonial Bank, where she met her sister-in-law, Pat, who introduced her to the love of her life, Francis. Diane and Francis married in October 1971 and raised two sons together. Her commitment to helping others led her back to school at Naugatuck Valley Community College, where she became a certified Radiology Technologist. She found fulfillment in her career, working in positions at both Waterbury Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital and alongside Dr. Patrick Duffy.

As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Diane's greatest joy was always her family. She had a wonderful way of making the ordinary moments of life feel special, and some of her family's most treasured memories were created simply by being together. Whether knitting something especially for someone she loved, preparing a favorite meal, filling the house with the wonderful aromas of holiday baking, or sharing jars of her homemade jelly with family and friends, Diane expressed her love in countless thoughtful ways. For her, these were never simply things she did—they were ways of caring for the people who meant everything to her. She treasured the time she shared with Francis and their family, especially the road trips they enjoyed with their siblings and the many happy vacations spent together in Wildwood, New Jersey. Those trips became part of the family's story and provided memories that will now be cherished even more dearly. Her Catholic faith was another very important part of her life, and she was a devoted parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Above all else, Diane will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and for the family she cherished so deeply. Her greatest legacy will not be found in any single accomplishment, but in the countless memories she created, the traditions she passed along, and the love that will continue to bind her family together. As we remember Diane, may we do so with gratitude for a life well lived and for all the ways she touched those fortunate enough to know and love her. Although her absence leaves an emptiness that cannot easily be filled, there is comfort in knowing that so much of Diane remains—in the stories that will be told, the traditions that will continue, and especially in the hearts of her family. May her memory always be a blessing, and may she now find eternal peace and rest.

Left to cherish and honor her memory are her sons: Francis P. Geigle of Newington and John A. Geigle and his wife, Natalie of Stratford and her grandchildren, Alexander, Brendan, Kiernan and Aedan. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Patricia Beck of Waterbury and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and beloved friends. Besides her husband of 54 years, Francis, she was predeceased by her siblings, Frederick Rainville and Patricia Elsdon and her brother-in-law, David Beck.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Geigle will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St, Waterbury, CT to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the Geigle family on Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Monday morning from 8:30 until the procession leaves for church at 9:30 am at the funeral home. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Diane to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
