Beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend
WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Courtney R. Carangelo, age 48, of Waterbury, shares the news of her unexpected passing on Saturday, August 16th, 2025.
Courtney was born on April 30, 1977, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of Charles and Sheila (Gaudiosi) Butterly. She attended Wallace Middle School and Crosby High School, embodying a spirit of love and devotion that profoundly touched the lives of those around her. Courtney embraced the joys and challenges of life from a young age. A dedicated young mother, she poured her heart and soul into raising her daughter, ensuring that family remained her utmost priority. As a grandmother, she continued this legacy of love, showering her grandchildren with affection and creating cherished memories that will remain in their hearts forever. A vibrant person with a passion for life, Courtney cherished simple pleasures. She found joy in watching scary movies and loved to spend weekends shopping, always ready to share a laugh and a story. Her playful spirit extended to teasing her younger sister in the most endearing ways, reminding everyone that laughter was an essential part of life. Though Courtney may have departed from this world all too soon, her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will remain a guiding light for all who had the privilege to know and love her.
Left to honor Courtney’s life and cherish her memory are her parents, Charles and Sheila Butterly of Watertown, her daughter, Deserae Carangelo of Waterbury, her sister, Kelly Goffredo, and her husband, Brian, of Watertown. Courtney was blessed with two grandchildren, Mya and Mariyah Velez, and also leaves her nephew, Jordan Rogers, as well as her beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many friends who will forever remember her warmth, resilience, and the unconditional love she offered so freely.
