WATERBURY - It is with great sadness that the family of Chiarina Colucci, age  83, of Waterbury, announce her passing as Saint Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday April 2nd 2024.

Chiarina was born in Celenza, Foggia, Italy, on May 19, 1940, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Maria (Tommasone) D’Agostino.  At just 18 years of age, Chiarina came to the United States after an arranged marriage, not knowing a word of English. She did well for herself despite this, worked at various jobs and settled at Mattatuck Manufacturing Company where she worked as a tool setter, machine operator, and group leader.

Chiarina had many fond memories of growing up in her little village in Italy, and she could entertain you for hours with her stories. She and her 8 siblings worked hard from a very young age, helping their father build houses. Although she only attended school until the 5th grade, Chiarina learned a lot through working with her family. She built on those skills and became quite the handywoman: plumbing, electrical, you name it. She was also a great cook. Whenever her daughter came to visit from MA, she was certain to leave with a big pot of her homemade sauce and amazing meatballs. Her manicotti was excellent, and her pizza was the best you’ll ever have.

Family was everything to Chiarina. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. She cherished every moment with them and would do anything for them. She will be so missed by her family and all who were blessed to know her.Chiarina was sadly predeceased by her beloved son Johnny, but there is comfort in knowing they are reunited. She is survived by her daughter MaryLou Bakalos, son-in-law Perry, grandchildren Maxwell, Olivia, Emily, and Samantha, her daughter-in-law Laedina Colucci, and granddaughter Evelyn. She also leaves behind 2 sisters in Italy, Rosa and Angelina, and her brother Attilio. She was predeceased by her other siblings, Concettina, Lina, Joseph, John, and Lina Savard.

Services for Mrs. Colucci will be held privately at the convenience of the family, Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT has been honored to care for Chiarina and the Colucci family.  Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence or words of comfort or share a memory of someone important to you with your family and friends.
