Celedonia Padro Díaz

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Celedonia "Lele" Padro Díaz, 99, of Waterbury, CT. She entered eternal rest on June 13, 2025, in hospice care with her family by her side. She is the beloved wife of Edwin Díaz, with whom she has been married for 68 wonderful years.

Celedonia was born in Utuado, PR, on October 13, 1925, the youngest of 12 children, born to the late Esteban Padro and the late Antonia Toledo De Padro. A seamstress by trade and by heart, she stitched generations together with her quiet strength and her steady love.

Left to honor and cherish her memory besides her husband are her four daughters: Miriam Díaz Gilbert and her husband Jonathan of Voorhees, NJ, Nellie Díaz-Starks and her husband Victor of Rockaway, NJ, Sarah Diaz of Waterbury, CT and María Díaz Sommer and her husband Thomas of Hamden, CT. Also left to honor and cherish her are her five grandchildren: Jonna Gilbert-Wahle and her husband Max, Geraldo Nailing and his wife Jessica, Antonia Monteiro and her husband BJ, and Sebastian Gilbert and his wife Taryn, and Taylor Starks. She also leaves seven great grandchildren: Jordan, Sawyer, Harper, Kane, Reign, Mercer and Teagan. Celedonia will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her..

A funeral mass for Celedonia will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 10 am at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of her family in her birthplace, Puerto Rico. Celedonia loved animals of all kinds, especially her beloved pets over the years.
