Mrs. Catherine Brown

January 12, 1937 — June 18, 2023

Beloved Mother, Sister and Aunt

BETHLEHEM– Catherine “Kathleen” P. Brown age 86, of Bethlehem, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her daughter after a brief illness. She was the widow of Allan M. Brown.

Catherine was born January 12, 1937, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Albert J. and Catherine A. (Donovan) Portman. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and spent many years working alongside her husband as the treasurer and office manager at Speeds Incorporated. Catherine was an animal lover who especially loved her fur babies and admired the local wildlife around her home in Bethlehem. She truly felt fortunate to be able to live in the “country” and was proud of the fact she was able to independently maintain her home and property after her husband Allan’s passing 29 years ago. Catherine was an avid reader and enjoyed indoor gardening. She would often boast that she had over 130 houseplants. Catherine took great pride in her appearance, always impeccably dressed, to either go out and enjoy a meal with her friends and family or to watch a show at one of the local theaters that she supported. She was also a member of the Litchfield Country Club for many years along with her husband.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her daughter, Denise Correia and her partner, Roderick Rose of Litchfield, her sister, Margaret Cinquanta and her husband, Anthony of Northford as well as her nieces, Catherine Sorensen and her husband, Gerald, and Laura Mueller and their families. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Portman.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held privately at the convenience of her family. She will be interred in Bantam Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care has been honored to care for Catherine and her family during this difficult time. To honor Catherine’s memory, memorial donations to the Bethlehem Ambulance Association or to the Animal Rescue of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by her family.
