CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - It is with heavy hearts that the family members of Mr. Brian Anthony Andrews, age 64, say farewell for now to our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, following his passing on Thursday, October 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Brian was born on December 6, 1961, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of the late Annie Antrum (Andrews) and James Mayfield. After growing up in New Haven, where he proudly graduated from Hillhouse High School, he spent most of his adult life in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 2018, he moved to North Carolina to be closer to his son, Josh. Throughout his life, Brian earned several certifications, including those in radio broadcasting, culinary arts, and surgical technology. Although he held many different jobs throughout his life, Brian was especially proud of his work as a social worker aide at the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, a DJ at Radio Trinity College and Power Muzic Radio, and, most recently, a surgical technician at Atrium Hospital in Charlotte, from which he had recently retired. Brian had a true passion for music, especially the R&B sounds of the 1970s and 1980s and loved cooking, particularly for his family, with chicken involtini being one of his favorite dishes to prepare. He found great joy in hosting friends and family, celebrating Christmas, and bringing people together around the table. He had a wonderful sense of style and took pride in his appearance, rarely being seen without a hat. A devoted New York Knicks fan, Brian enjoyed cheering on his favorite team. Above all else, Brian cherished the love he shared with his children and he also held a special place in his heart for his longtime friends from Brookside in New Haven, whose friendships remained meaningful throughout his life.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to N’Akia Tapley for her extraordinary compassion, selflessness, and dedication to Brian during his final days. Her unwavering presence, loving care, and tireless advocacy brought comfort and support to Brian and the family during an incredibly difficult time. The family is also grateful to her husband, Shawn, for his support during this time.
Brian will be remembered for his love of family, his many talents, his appreciation for music and good food, and his wonderful sense of humor. He was always ready with a joke or a witty remark to bring a smile to someone’s face and laughter to any room. He leaves behind countless cherished memories with those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Raven Michener and her husband Cody, and Joshua Isaiah Anthony Andrews, as well as his grandson, David Anthony Michener. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Cedric Antrum, Shelly Mayfield-Addison and her husband, Leroy, Simone Mayfield, Raven Antrum, Jayme Mayfield, and Lauren Mayfield; his aunt, Eloise Hamilton and her husband, George; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Gregory Andrews.
Celebration of Life for Mr. Andrews will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the Andrews family from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The burial will be private.
