WATERTOWN — It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Billy T. Shelton, age 87, of Oakville, CT, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Ann (Barone) Shelton.
Billy was born August 22, 1938, in Athens, GA, the son of the late William and Inez Shelton. Billy came to Connecticut at the age of 17 and, shortly thereafter, proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, he met the love of his life, Ann Barone. Over the years, he held many jobs, including owning his own transmission shop, Bill’s Transmission Services. He later worked at Seymour Smith & Sons, Peter Paul + Cadbury, and finally, Southbury Training School, where he retired. Billy enjoyed fishing and often took his children to Kasson Grove when they were young. He also enjoyed playing pool and watching his favorite sports, including baseball, football, and NASCAR. Billy will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to know and love him.
In addition to his wife, Ann, of 67 years, he is survived by his two sisters, Connie Bryant and Lisa Zilaro; his three children, Robert (Michael) Shelton, Donna Lambert, and David (Nancy) Shelton; four grandchildren, Zachary Lambert, Grace Lambert, Daniel Shelton, and Sarah Shelton; and one great-grandchild, Luck Reeves.
Billy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Lorraine Marti a cherished family friend whose kindness and support were a great comfort to Billy and his family during this difficult time.
Funeral services for Mr. Shelton will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Disciples Parish, St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St, Watertown. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. To honor Billy’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) at www.helpdav.org would be greatly appreciated by his family. The Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main St, Oakville, has been honored to care for Billy and his family during this most difficult time. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Billy to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
