Obituary

WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Bernabe Oviedo Oviedo, age 57, of Waterbury, shares the news of his unexpected passing on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Saint Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Carmen (Soto) Oviedo.

Bernabe was born on October 30, 1968, in Mexico City, Mexico, the beloved son of Natalia Oviedo and the late Gabriel Oviedo. His journey brought him to the United States in the 1980s, where he first settled in California before finding his forever home in Waterbury, Connecticut. Bernabe dedicated his life to hard work and resilience. He began his career as a prep cook, later becoming a warehouse worker, and ultimately found his passion as a landscaper with Costello Landscaping in Bristol. His green thumb was evident not only in his profession but also in his love for gardening, where he nurtured beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. Cooking was another passion; he took great joy in preparing delicious Mexican and Italian dishes for his family and friends. He also loved watching fútbol, specifically his favorite team, ”Club America”

Family was the cornerstone of his life where he treasured every moment spent with his loving wife and three beautiful daughters. Bernabe also had a special bond with his pets, Keith and Mia. He actively attended St. Anne’s Church, reflecting his commitment to faith and community, particularly in the last year of his life, alongside his wife. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family.

Bernabe will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he forever rest in peace.

Left to honor and cherish his memory and legacy, besides his loving wife of 35 years and his mother, are his children, Natalia Oviedo and her fiancé Carlos Martir of Watertown, Alexandria Oviedo and Gabriela Oviedo, both of Waterbury, his siblings Porfirio Oviedo and Maria De Los Angeles Oviedo and his grandchildren, Aiden and Ashton. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and friends.
