WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Anibal Acevedo Quinones, age 76, of Waterbury, share the news of his peaceful passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Anibal was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on February 28, 1949, the son of the late Maximino Quinones and Rosa (Acevedo) Quinones. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he then moved to the United States where he began his life and new opportunities for himself and his family. He worked for 47 years as a Foreman at Timex, Bendex which is now Allied Signal. Anibal was known for his generous spirit and strong values. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: watching boxing matches with his son and sons-in-law, fishing, playing dominoes with his siblings, and working on cars. A man of discipline, he held a red belt in karate and took pride in sharing his knowledge of the bible with others. His culinary skills were unmatched, as he delighted his daughters with starting a yearly tradition of making delicious Puerto Rican pasteles. Anibal was especially devoted to his family, and he often spent time helping with his granddaughter, traveling with his daughters, always putting smiles on the faces of children and grandchildren with his funny humor, creating cherished memories that will be treasured by those who knew him. Anibal’s legacy will live on in the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, the laughter he created with his sense of humor, his generosity and the love he gave so freely to everyone. His life was a testament to God’s power of restoration, the strength of compassion, and the joy of simple pleasures. May he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and never forgotten.
Left to honor and cherish his memories is the mother of his children and friend, Iris Gonzalez Perry, his beloved children; Alyssa (Jonathan) De Barros, Anibal Quinones Jr, Adriana (Damian) Blocker, and Eric (Ashleena) Quinones. He leaves his grandchildren whom he cherished and loved dearly; Alana, Olivia, Giana, Alexia, Summer, and Leena, his siblings; Raul Quinones, Mercedes Baez, Leonides Quinones, and Efrain Acevedo, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Anibal was predeceased by his grandson, Jonathan De Barros Jr., siblings; Cecilio, Felix, Carmen, and Isabella Quinones.
