Obituary

WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Alan S. McGill age 72, of Waterbury, announces his peaceful passing at the Vitas Hospice Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after a brief illness..

Born on November 15, 1953, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Alan was the son of the late Samuel and Annette (Snipes) McGill and dedicated his life to hard work and family. From the tender age of 13, he learned the family trade as a roofer alongside his father, ultimately taking over Mattatuck Roofing and pouring his heart into the business until his retirement in 2003. Alan was more than just a hardworking man; he was a lover of the outdoors-a passionate fisherman with a keen interest in history. He often delighted in sharing fascinating WWII documentaries and stories with anyone eager to listen, particularly the younger generations who looked up to him. Family meant everything to Alan. He cherished the simple joys, whether it was gathering his weekly lottery tickets with his son or enjoying quiet moments on the back porch with his daughter and grandsons, Kaiden and Karter who affectionately referred to Alan as Padre. He had a heart of gold, often welcoming a stray dog into his family, each new friend finding a loving home with Alan at the helm. One of Alan's delightful trademarks in recent years was his sturdy cane, which he affectionately referred to as his "wife," carrying it with humor and pride.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish her memory are his children, his son, Alan Michael McGill and his daughter, Dana Verban and her husband Alvaro, all of Waterbury. He also leaves his former wife, Linda (Christafano) McGill and his sister, Janice Brown of FL, in addition to his grandsons; Kaiden and Karter and many friends and wonderful neighbors from Nottingham Terrace, who became part of his extended family.

Funeral services for Mr. McGill will be held on Tuesday, August 4th 2026 at 6:45 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705, Relative and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with Alan's family from 5:00 p.m. until the service commences at 6:45.
