William Dunn

Waterbury - William T. Dunn Sr. of Meadowbrook Drive passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2013 at Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen (Unis) Dunn.

Bill was born July 4, 1926, in Naugatuck, Conn., the son of the late Lawrence and Grace (Thurston) Dunn. He was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having proudly served his country during World War II. He was a Regional Manager for many years at the Connecticut Water Company, overseeing Naugatuck and several other water systems. Bill was one of the Waterbury area's top fast-pitch softball pitchers, who led the amateur all-star team each year against the professional Waterbury Bombers. He was a dedicated fan of both the men's and women's UConn basketball teams and an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Following his retirement, and up until last Friday, he could be found on any day of the week helping out at Connecticut Signcraft in Naugatuck, a business owned by his son and son-in-law. He was a member of the VFW Post 201 Waterbury, a Past President of the Naugatuck Exchange Club and a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, where he was a former Lector and Extraordinary Minister.

Besides his wife and best friend of 65 years, Bill leaves his children; sons, William T. Dunn Jr. and his wife Patricia of Southington and David and his wife Margaret of Naugatuck, his daughters; Joan Neth and her husband Robert and Judy Verrastro and her husband George both of Naugatuck. He also leaves his brother, Lawrence Dunn of Southbury and sisters, Sr. Grace Marie Dunn of the Daughters of Charity stationed in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Rosemary Healy of Naugatuck as well as 15 grandchildren; William Dunn III, Robert, Christopher, Sarah, David, Sandra, Stephanie, Rebecca, George, Shannon, Daniel, Kimberly, Joseph, Kevin and Karlyn, 5 great grandchildren; Dylan, William Dunn IV, Madison, Noah and Victoria and was looking forward to the arrival of his sixth great grandchild this December. Bill was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Gaspar and Genevieve O'Dea and a granddaughter Jennifer Dunn.



Funeral Services for Mr. Dunn will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 8:45 am from Eastside Memorial, A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd to St. Francis Xavier, 625 Baldwin St, Waterbury to celebrate the liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30am. Rites of committal with full military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends and relatives may visit with Bill's family on Friday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
