Sister Mary Ellen Theriault

Sister Mary Ellen Theriault, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Sister Mary Ellen was born on April 14, 1948 in Waterbury CT, a daughter of the late Ernest and Julia (Graham) Theriault. She earned her B.A. in Education from Saint John’s University and her Masters Degree in Theology from Saint Michaels College in Vermont. She entered into religious life on September 11, 1966 with the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk in Blue Point, Long Island, New York.
She was a teacher at The Nativity in Ozone Park, NY, Saint Maurice in Stamford, CT, and Saint Thomas the Apostle in West Hartford, CT. Mary Ellen relocated to Highgate Center, Vermont where she was Director of Religious Education at Saint Lewis Parish for 25 years. She moved to Weston Vermont where she was very active at the Weston Priory. Most recently Mary Ellen served on the leadership team for the Ursuline Sisters. Mary loved children and had many babysitting assignments for family and friends.
She leaves a sister Julia (Judy) Koskelowski, brothers Norbert and his wife Angela, John and his wife Veronica, and a sister-in-law Louise Theriault. She was pre-deceased by her brother Ernest. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and all of her religious sisters.
Mary was also pre-deceased by a very special sister and lifelong friend, Sister Joan Sirtowt.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11A.M. Wednesday, November 30, at Saint Peter and Paul / Mary Mother of the Church, 56 Southmayd Rd, Waterbury CT. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit from 9:30 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury CT.
