Waterbury — Jaideep Walia, age 71, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 under the care of Vitas Hospice Care in St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born on November 13, 1950 and raised in Ambala, India with his three brothers and two sisters. He left his country to pursue the American dream in 1989 with his wife Sangeeta, and daughter Anshu in Waterbury. He and his wife would later have a son, Ashish.

While in India, he helped create books for the blind at the Blind Institute of Ambala for seven years. After migrating to the U.S.,he spent his life as a devoted employee for Cly-Del manufacturing. He was always the first one to start the evening shift, and never complained about the day’s work. At the company for more than 26 years, retiring at the age of 65 in December 2016.

Jaideep loved a variety of Indian dishes, sambar and dosa being one of his favorites. He spent a lot of his downtime rewatching all the Bollywood classics including “Bandani,” “Woh Kaun Thi” and “Bhagavan.” He always loved a good nap and never gave up the opportunity to go shopping with his wife and kids. Lucky enough to live close to family over the years, many summer nights were spent outside with all the relatives eating chole, puri and drinking chai in the backyard.

Raising his two children to follow their dreams with his wife’s support was Jaideep’s biggest accomplishment. He supported and guided Anshu and Ashish during their time in school and college, ensuring they understood the importance of hardwork. He instilled the values of loyalty, perseverance and grit.

Thirteen years ago, Jaideep welcomed his son-in-law Puneet Nanda to the family, who married his daughter Anshu, and five years later, he once again welcomed his daughter-in-law Trisha Sakhuja-Walia, who married his son, Ashish, with open arms. Nine years ago, Puneet and Anshu gave birth to the family’s first granddaughter Anya and six years ago, he witnessed the birth of Anika. Anya and Anika never missed the opportunity to make their nana smile as they played and did magic tricks.

All in all, Jaideep lived a happy, simple and fulfilled life. Never a big talker, he proudly watched his family blossom over the years. Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, besides his wife of 42 years, are his two siblings, his two children, and two grandchildren, and lots of extended family including his two brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws.
