Devoted Mother and Grandmother
WATERBURY- Elizabeth “Bunny” (Fitzgerald) Shugrue, age 82 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Tuesday August 9, 2022 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Marys Hospital. She was the widow of Maurice Shugrue Jr.
Bunny was born on October 23, 1939 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Clancy) Fitzgerald. She attended local schools and worked for many years in various positions at St. Mary’s Hospital. What was most important to Bunny was her family. She enjoyed a special bond with Cindy’s grandson, Juan but was always happiest when surrounded by her family and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic, and parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Bunny was one of a kind and she made the world a better place for all of us and we are all blessed and thankful for having had her in our life.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memories, are her children; Maurice “Moe” F. Shugrue III and his longtime companion, Cindy LeVasseur, of Waterbury, her daughter, Susan Albini and her husband, Giovanni “John” of Watertown, her brother, Edward Fitzgerald and sister, Catherine Grozik and her adoring grandchildren; Nicole Canelli, Jessica Shugrue, Jeremiah Shugrue, Tara Piantetosi, Jacob Shugrue, Danielle Albini and John Albini. She was predeceased by her daughter Colleen A. Shugrue, grandson, Maurice F. Shugrue IV and her siblings; Thomas Fitzgerald Jr. John Fitzgerald, Ann Juan, Mary Fasano. Bunny’s family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff at both Vitas Innovative Health and Apple Rehab in Watertown for the love and care they shared with Bunny and her family during her illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shugrue will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the Shugrue family on Thursday from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you.
