Honoring and Remembering the life of David Cavanaugh
MIDDLETOWN— David Roy Cavanaugh Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Carolyn (Nole) Cavanaugh of 48 years.
David was born in Waterbury, CT on June 18, 1942, the son of the late John Sr, and Frances (Pettit) Cavanaugh, and spent most of his life a resident of the city. He attended Sacred Heart High School and the University of Connecticut. David also served our country as a Sergeant in the National Guard. After completing his military service, he became an electrician, working for Scovill Manufacturing in Waterbury, and retired from New Departure in Bristol. Upon retiring from New Departure, David worked for Country Village Apartments. He was a dedicated worker and loved to keep busy. David loved going places with his wife and could easily make anyone laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. A devoted family man, David cherished any time spent with family and would never miss a celebration, sporting event, Sunday dinner, or school function for his children and grandchildren. He cared for his wife during her extended illness, never missing a day by her side. Upon her passing, David moved to Middletown to live with his son and grandsons where he enjoyed going for car rides and going out to dinner. He also loved planting flowers and taking in the views of the backyard. David was truly a gift to the family. His convictions and lessons he has taught us all will live on forever. David will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his children; Rita (Joseph) Bergin of Waterbury, David Cavanaugh Jr. of Middletown, and Linda Ciupa of Cheshire. His grandchildren who will deeply miss him, Courtney Bergin, Connor Bergin, Matthew Cavanaugh, Connor Cavanaugh, Corinne O’Toole, Noelle O’Toole, and Jessica O’Toole. He also leaves behind brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents and spouse, David is predeceased by his three brothers, John Jr., Roland, and Lawrence Cavanaugh. The family would like to thank a very special friend of David, Meredith Parke of Southington.
In honor of David’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and a private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury so he may be quickly reunited with the love of his life Carolyn.
