WATERBURY – Mrs. Catherine Patricia (Earley) Cruess, age 102, passed away peacefully on Monday September 19, 2022, at the Cheshire House in Waterbury after a brief illness. She was the widow of Raymond F. Cruess.
Patricia was born on October 6, 1919, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Walsh) Earley. She was educated in local schools and received certification as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She was owner and administrator of Oakcliff Convalescent Home for many years before retiring in 1990. She loved her work and was dedicated to a lifetime of care and service for so many patients.
She was a member of the CT Association of Healthcare Facilities and served as an officer. She was also a member of the Waterbury Quota Club.
She loved being with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and winters in Florida with her husband, Ray, and dear friend, Mae Tynan.
Pat’s family would especially like to thank Carol DeLeo for her many years of exceptional care, compassion, and friendship for Pat. A special thank you to the entire staff at Southmayd Home for their kindness, warmth, and care. She considered Southmayd her home. Thank you to Jan Rinaldi for years of care and companionship and Angela Frenette and the staff at Cheshire House and VITAS Hospice Care during her final days.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her daughter; Sondra Armel and her husband Gerald, of Knoxville TN, her son; Raymond and his wife Irene Cruess, of Waterbury, grandchildren; Carrie (Jeff), Sarah, Elizabeth (Kevin), Thomas (Carla), Julie, and Steven. Patricia was also predeceased by her sister, Mary (Mae) Cramer, and her brother, John Earley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cruess will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Loreto Church 15 Ardsley Rd. Waterbury, beginning at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Cruess family on Monday morning from 8:00am to 9:30am at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street at Southmayd Road, Waterbury.
